Well it’s official for most Northwestern Students… It’s finally Winter Break!!! So after you’ve caught up on sleep, caught up with friends and family… get caught up on your internship search!

Here are some quick tips for using the Winter Break to find an internship:

Network with Northwestern Alumni

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again… consider your time off from school a time to gain knowledge of a different type. Instead of learning theories and formulas, learn about the amazing Northwestern Alumni. Research alumni in your field of interest and ask them questions. Gather information and develop relationships.

Apply for Internships

Internships are being posted to CareerCat and iNet (including countless other sites) everyday. Start looking for internship postings online and make note of your favorites. Also make sure to work on keeping a calendar of all the looming deadlines.

Research Companies

If your goal is to return home for the summer, be sure to make note of all the great organizations and companies that are in your area. Make a list and research them online. If you need more help use Career Search, Hoovers and other resources that help you find companies by industry, location and other search options.

Also research what companies are coming to the January Career Fairs at Northwestern through your CareerCat Account. Watch a screencast of how to do that now at http://youtu.be/10JD1PCkhDI

Stay in touch with Northwestern UCS

UCS is open over Winter Break, with the exception of a few days for the holidays, so take advantage of this and make an appointment for your internship search in-person or over the phone by calling 847-491-3700 or email a staff member you have worked with in the past with questions, resume review requests and more.
