Have an interest in city planning and design? Join the Chicago Department of Transportation this summer to help design and implement over 30 miles of bikeways on the streets of Chicago. Banish the idea of sitting behind a desk all summer and get ready to enjoy some field work! Applicants should plan on spending much of their summer on a bike and be proficient with CADD.

CareerCat Description: Tasks — Preparing pavement marking plans using CADD software; conducting detailed field surveys to collect geometric, traffic, parking, and land use data needed for bikeway designs; identifying required upgrades to existing bikeways; assisting with the development of state and federal reports; developing plan sets and work orders; assisting the bikeways team with other tasks.

2. FAIR TRADE MARKETING INTERNSHIP @ WORLDFINDS, INC.

For those interested in an internship that will go beyond impacting your resume to impacting the world, consider a position with a fair trade company. WorldFinds is looking for marketing intern to assist in their joint campaign with artisans in the developing world to provide women’s accessories and gift items. Duties will include assisting with the development of marketing materials, assisting with tradeshow production, social media management and press relations.

Lincoln Park High School is offering students with an interest in education the chance to make a tangible impact on the life of a student. LPHS, which offers several magnet programs and has been nationally recognized for its academic success, is seeking interns to serve as small group and individual mentors. Mentors will be expected to spend time with their students in an environment that facilitates trust and productivity.

CareerCat Description: I will assign student interns to small groups of students. I would like the interns to meet individually with students once per week at lunch time to discuss how the week is going, check student assignment logs, attendance, conduct, and any missing assignments. Interns would meet with their small groups of 3 to 5 students after school at least two times per week to host homework or study table. Interns would also help students set goals and communicate with teachers to assess progress toward the goals. Finally, interns would visit classes regularly in order to understand the context of assignments.

4. COMMUNITY SOCIAL SERVICE/MARKETING INTERNSHIP @VANITY PROJECT

This NU alum-founded organization, creates, markets, and sells charity inspired apparel. This internship is a perfect fit for students interested in marketing in the non-profit sector. Put your social media skills to use and get out from behind a desk to enjoy some event planning! Design skills are a plus.

5. INDUSTURAL ENGINEER INTERN @ TEMPLE STEEL COMPANY
If you’re looking for a position in a growth-oriented company, check out Temple Steel. This global company reigns as America’s largest manufacturer of magnetic laminations for the motor and transformer industry. Interns will work in a developmental sector and will assist the department with implementing lean methodologies.

CareerCat Description: We have an excellent developmental opportunity for an Industrial Engineering Intern.
